Need
Healthcare is non-transparent in the United States. Uninsured patients seeking care do not realize that on average, they will pay more than 300% of standard Medicare rates for medical services and more than 600% for emergency room visits and hospitalizations. Evidently, costs are overly inflated and non-transparent.
This alone makes it almost impossible for an uninsured person to get the care they need. Through grants and funding, Promise to Aid will be the resource for the underserved and uninsured community to get access to the care they so desperately need.
Promise to Aid has a profound interest in educating this community on the necessity of preventive health, thus reducing their risk of financial exposure by way of decreased ER visits and hospital admissions.
The fact that the underserved population is typically not educated on the importance of preventive medicine and are reluctant to go to the doctor due to high healthcare costs unless they are seriously ill, causes a major issue in our healthcare system. This population does not see the benefits of regular doctor visits and health screenings in order to prevent severe health problems, which then create higher healthcare costs placing a financial burden on our economy.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, “Health Insurance Coverage in the United States” (report #P60-264), 8.8% of people or 28.5 million did not have health insurance coverage at any point between the years 2014 to 2018.
Understanding the economic financial impact, the underserved and uninsured population contributes to rising healthcare costs, Promise to Aid has teamed up with Formé Medical Center to provide medical care for those that otherwise could not afford to seek medical treatment. Based on historical data, it was determined that uninsured patients suffering from two or more chronic health conditions seek medical attention on average less than 2.5 times a year mainly due to their inability to pay for medical treatments. This unfortunate reality is one of the reasons why the patient visit average falls far below the (NCQA) National Committee of Quality Assurance requirements.
